1. Kobe Bryant - Los Angeles
2008 Statistics: 28.3 Pts - 6.3 Reb - 5.4 Ast
2009 Projection: 28.5 Pts - 6.2 Reb - 6.1 Ast
Kobe Bryant is the number one shooting guard, period. He should benefit from having Gasol for a whole season. His point total wont suffer because it stayed steady after the big trade went down. I do see an uptick in his APG from having a realiable post player and a developing one in Andrew Bynum.
2. Dwyane Wade - Miami
2008 Statistics: 24.6 Pts - 4.2 Reb - 6.9 Ast
2009 Projection: 25.1 Pts - 4.0 Reb - 7.5 Ast
Wade is the number 2 guard but this ranking will only hold true if he is able to stay healthy. He has only played 102 games the past 2 seasons. He will finally have some help in Miami with Shawn Marion and the rookie, Michael Beasley. This will increase his assist total and should help him keep his FG% hovering near 50%. He also averages nearly 2 steals per game but has averaged around 4 turnovers per game for his career. Pick him but be prepared to get a good back up option.
3. Gilbert Arenas - Washington
2008 Statistics: 19.4 Pts - 3.9 Reb - 5.1 Ast
2009 Projection: 27.8 Pts - 4.4 Reb - 6.3 Ast
Here's another shooting guard with injury problems. He only managed to play 13 games last year with 32 minutes per game. He is returning with a clean bill of health and a new contract that he will have to live up. He could have been classified as a PG but he is a scoring machine and figured he would be better suited as a SG. Agent Zero is due in for a comeback year and his owners will rejoice at the sight of him starting a game as opposed to being in civilian clothes on the bench.
4. Michael Redd- Milwaukee
2008 Statistics: 22.7 Pts - 4.3 Reb - 3.4 Ast
2009 Projection: 24.1 Pts - 5.0 Reb - 4.0 Ast
Michael Redd has been underrated for years because he plays in a smaller market team than other notable SGs but few can shoot the rock like he can. He will consistently get you 20 a night and hit a few 3s for good measure. Unfortunately, thats all he really does for ur team tho I expect he is healthier and his other stats should increase. Haing Richard Jefferson around should help him as well.
5. Brandon Roy - Portland
2008 Statistics: 19.1 Pts - 4.7 Reb - 5.8 Ast
2009 Projection: 21.5 Pts - 5.2 Reb - 6.3 Ast
Some might be shocked by the ranking of Brandon Roy so high but I strongly believe he is a top 5 SG for fantasy basketball. Besides the points, assists, and rebounds, he brings less than 2 turnovers per game and over a steal a game to your team. Also, he will have an improved supporting cast that will include Greg Oden. The Blazers are an up-and-coming team in the NBA and so is Roy.
